自替主持界名人Andy Dick製作封面的設計圖樣,今年9月首次個人畫展,即將
藉美國加州Hollywood的 Les Deux咖啡館展出,並頻頻與美術界知名人士交
流互動,如替曼森製作過3張專輯美術Paul Brown設計舉行聯展,以及和
Gottfried Helnwein 等當今最聳動的藝術家進行合作. 很早以前,曼森已經不能
算是專職的音樂人了,現在更可說是一位多元化的創作人.

Hinzu kam die Zusammenarbeit mit dem österreichischen Künstler Gottfried Helnwein. Der Maler und Fotograf hatte bereits 1982 in der Musikszene von sich reden gemacht, als er das Cover legendäre Cover für das Scorpions-Album "Blackout" lieferte. Ebenso bekannt wurde seine Rammstein-Foto-Session und das Cover für das aktuelle Westernhagen-Album. Für "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" schuf er das Artwork, darunter auch sinistre Porträtaufnahmen Mansons mit Mickey Mouse-Ohren.
Helnwein sagte einst, er habe von Walt Disney mehr gelernt, als von Leonardo da Vinci, die Bilder sind aber wohl eher eine Verarbeitung des neuen Selbstverständnisses von Manson: "Früher war ein Entertainer für mich etwas völlig anderes als ein Künstler. An diesem Punkt meines Lebens meine ich aber beides zu sein. Leute zu unterhalten ist Teil meiner Kunst und meines Lebensstils." ...

What were the reactions to the work you created together? Some of the photos are a bit unsettling....
MANSON:
It was funny; we released some of the photos without commenting what they were or what we intended to do with them – if they were the cover for The Golden Age of Grotesque or not. Not even our record company knew what they were for. They assumed they were for the cover artwork and got quite angry, "What the fuck should we do with this cover?!?" So I told them not to worry about it; it's not the cover and showed them the one with the Mickey Mouse ears. It freaked them out even more. But that's how I deal with people who think they're the portraits of authority. ...

L’univers de Marilyn Manson dépasse largement le cadre musical. Comme à son habitude, l’artiste a offert à son album une illustration visuelle riche et conceptuelle, dont il a confié la réalisation à l’artiste autrichien de renommée internationale : Gottfried Helnwein.
Réputé pour sa capacité à illustrer des sujets tabous, le peintre et photographe a trouvé en Marilyn Manson, un modèle et partenaire de choix ; une partie de l’œuvre réalisée est d’ores et déjà censurée.

Manson: That’s something I want to do in as many places as possible. We’re going to display collaborative work I’ve done with artist Gottfried Helnwein- large multimedia images. There is my painting. There are giant absinthe glasses with women inside them and conjoined twins and black elephants. Whatever I can find, really. And then there’s the music. I’m trying to leave people with a piece of my brain. ...

Helnwein and I created a living installation with two disabled nude women as families stopped their picnics to stare. Of course we documented this for future viewing. Auf den Gängen des Foyers marschieren zehn Menschlein in Braunhemden auf und ab - ihre Gesichter sind mit Mullbinden maskiert, sie drücken beim Gleichschritt die Knie durch, als hätten sie Platinplatten in den Gelenken, reagieren nicht auf Ansprache, folgt man ihnen aber, so gelangt man in einen anderen Teil des Foyers. Hier hängen übergroße Fotos Marilyn Mansons von Gottfried Helnwein, noch so ein Ästhet des Schreckens. Manson mit der obligatorischen Helnwein-Zahnspange, Manson als drogenabhängige Mutter, Manson mit runden schwarzen Ohren, den Ohren von Mickey Mouse, dem Symbol für amerikanisches Pflichtbewusstsein schlechthin. Plötzlich steht Marilyn Manson mit Gottfried Helnwein vor den Bildern, und Antje Vollmer gesellt sich dazu. Auf erstauntes Nachfragen sagt sie, es habe sie einfach mal interessiert, das seien ja exzellente Bilder. ...

Von einer kleinen, in NS-Uniformen gekleideten Gruppe Mickey Maus-Soldaten mit Kopfverband begleitet, begab man sich in den linken Flügel des pompösen Gebäudes, wo der zweite Teil der Austellung wartete. Bezog sich der erste Teil ausschließlich auf MANSONs Wassermalereien, konnten dort in beeindruckender Größe u.A. die Cover zu "T.G.A.O.G." und "Mobscene" bestaunt werden, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Wiener Künstler Gottfried Helnwein enstanden sind. Dieser ließ sich auch nicht lumpen und erschien höchstpersönlich, um sich an der Führung zu beteiligten und Autogramme zu geben.

Del disagio del pubblico di fronte a bambini non rappresentati come innocenti e ai quali si attribuisca marcatamente un’identità (e una consapevolezza) sessuale è ben conscio l’artista austriaco Gottfried Helnwein che, soprattutto nei lavori su carta, ha creato alcune tra le più potenti e conturbanti rappresentazioni della storia dell’arte, di infanzia abusata. Ma non certo d’abuso da codice penale si tratta. Quel che viene denunciata è la manipolazione puntuale, l’introduzione forzata (The intrusion), a opera degli adulti, nel corpo sociale dell’infanzia, che viene così snaturato, svuotato di quelle naturalissime pulsioni che ci si ostina a non riconoscere, a negare. Di fronte a esse Helnwein non solo non distoglie lo sguardo, non indietreggia, ma ne cattura l’essenza, la forza, e la porge allo spettatore le cui certezze cominciano a vacillare, come avviene all’uomo in The doubting Thomas, inginocchiato di fronte alla bambina e col capo accoccolato sulle sue ginocchia in segno d’abbandono, di prostrazione assoluta. E ancora in Untitled (1993) sono messi in scena, al contempo, il riconoscimento della “fluidità”, dell’inafferrabilità infantile e la volontà di costringerle entro una fissità rassicurante. Numerosi sono anche i lavori, sia fotografici che pittorici, in cui bambine vengono rappresentate con delle fasciature che ne coprono, anche integralmente, il capo e le mani (la tattilità) tentando, attraverso la recisione sensoriale, di impedirne il contatto “immediato” col mondo, la presa sul mondo. Tentando, cioè, di ricacciare indietro quella sensualità contagiosa, incontenibile, che i sensi infantili potrebbero proiettare su di esso (cfr. Beautiful victim II e il più volte ripreso Child of light). ...
